COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The state’s financial experts say South Carolina will have more than $1 billion in additional revenue next year.
Multiple media outlets reported the Board of Economic Advisors approved a forecast Tuesday that $1.2 billion would be available in the budget year beginning July 1.
Much of the money is leftover from previous years.
Lawmakers in January can decide whether to spend the extra money on the state’s roads and bridges, paying for flood damage from last month’s heavy rains or complying with a South Carolina Supreme Court order to improve rural schools.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Brian White of Anderson said there also are requests from law enforcement, Medicaid and mental health.
Beaufort Sen. Tom Davis says some of the money should go back to taxpayers.
