CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women’s basketball program opened its 2015-16 season with a 105-15 victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian Friday night at the HTC Center.

The Chanticleers missed a program record for most points scored in a game by six points (CCU scored 121 in a 121-37 win versus Barbara Scotia last season) and set a record by allowing a program-low 15 points (the previous best is when CCU held Southern Virginia to 20 points in 2009).

In all, Coastal had six players score in double figures with Rachel Gregory leading the way with 19 points off the bench. Also contributing double digits were Alexis Robinson (16 pts), Yasmin Miler (14 pts), Jas Adams (12 pts), Nicole Isaacs (11 pts) and Olivia Carlton (10 pts).

The Chants forced 43 turnovers in the win and came away with 25 steals – four each by Robinson and Kennedy Archer.

Coastal began the game with an 11-0 run and never looked back. Isaacs scored seven of the team’s 11 points during the run. After a two free throws by the Mustangs, Coastal put together another 11-0 run with Gregory scoring seven points in the spurt.

The Chanticleers led 27-3 at the end of the first quarter, 51-8 at halftime and 83-13 through three quarters.

Coastal Carolina will return to action Sunday (Nov. 16) with a trip to in-state rival Clemson. Tipoff at Jervey Gym is set for 2 pm.
