ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a woman went to court in Rock Hill pretending to be her own mother and showing a forged document from the coroner’s office to try to fake her own death and avoid a jail sentence.
Police told The Herald of Rock Hill (http://bit.ly/1HJT6rH ) that a suspicious clerk notified officers after 43-year-old Darene Springs Weston presented the paperwork Wednesday.
Weston was tried in absence and found guilty of driving under the influence. Authorities say she was scheduled to be sentenced when she pretended to be her mother and presented the forged coroner’s office documents.
A judge sentenced Weston to 90 days in jail on the old charges, and she also faces a new charge of obstruction of justice.
