CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The Conway Police Department received a call Wednesday morning in connection with a “wounded” 4-year-old child who had been taken to a local hospital.
According to Sgt. Darren Alston with Conway police, officers were dispatched to the Grand Strand Medical Center Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. Officers were briefed concerning a “wounded” 4-year-old girl, but Sgt. Alston could not go into detail concerning how the child was wounded.
Sgt. Alston confirms all the injuries the little girl sustained are to her head. As of 3:34 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the little girl was listed in critical condition and the medical staff has deemed the young patient to be brain-dead, adds Sgt. Alston.
Erroneous information regarding the 4-year-old initially being taken to Conway Medical Center was mistakenly released, Sgt. Alston states. The child is being treated at Grand Strand Medical, adds Sgt. Alston.
Sgt. Alston says no one has been taken into custody in connection to the child’s wounds at this point, but officers are continuing their investigation into this incident and hope to soon release more information surrounding the case. Police could not release who brought the child to the hospital as that may “jeopardize the investigation.”
