Have You Heard, today (11/22) marks 52 years since President John F. Kennedy was gunned down in downtown Dallas.
He was only 46.

The U.S. Secret Service, due to security concerns for the new President, Lyndon Johnson, overruled Texas law and flew Kennedy’s body back to Washington.
Late in the evening on November 22, the late President’s autopsy was conducted at the Bethesda (MD) Naval Hospital, now called the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
That center was named for U.S. Army physician, Dr. Walter Reed, who died 113 years ago today.
Reed was at the forefront of the research that a mosquito transmitted yellow fever and not direct contact between two persons. That discovery saved millions of lives and led directly to the resumption of work on the Panama Canal. That work was halted because of a yellow fever epidemic.
Reed died of a ruptured appendix at the age of 51.

French President Charles de Gaulle attended President Kennedy’s funeral.
de Gaulle was born 125 years ago today (11/22/1890).
He died at the age of 79.

Billie Jean King won 12 Grand Slam tennis titles.
King is 72 today.

Boris Becker won six Grand Slam tennis titles.
Becker is 48 today.

40 years ago today a relatively-new disco group, KC and the Sunshine Band, hit the top of the pop charts with its second number-one hit, “That’s the Way (I Like It).”
The band had three more number-ones and two number-twos.
However, it hasn’t broken the top-100 since 1983.

Today is also “Go For a Ride Day,” “Mother Goose Day” and “Cashew Day.”

You can see “Have You Heard” each weeknight after weather on News13 at 11:00.
