The crash happened around 3:42 a.m. when a commercial box truck slammed into a sedan that was pulled over on the side of the road on I-40 westbound near East Garner Road.
Eddie Urieta-Yanez, 19, of the 1500 block of Stovall Drive in Raleigh died in the incident.
Troopers said that Urieta-Yanez was in a 1996 Toyota car that was parked on the roadside of I-40 at the end of the merge lane onto I-40 west from U.S. 70, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened when a commercial Freightliner box truck was traveling from US 70 onto I-40 west and failed to reduce speed and hit the passenger car, Troopers said.
“After impact, the truck traveled over the passenger vehicle and came to a rest approximately 150 yards west of the crash location,” Troopers said in a press release.
The driver of the truck is a 44-year-old man from Lucama, N.C., according to officials.
No charges have been filed in the crash as of Monday afternoon, officials said.
