A video created by the department depicts Dr. Seuss character, The Grinch, showing up on the doorstep of a Myrtle Beach home, snatching purses and stealing Christmas gifts. The police department created the entertaining video to give holiday shoppers and travelers safety tips on protecting themselves, and their purchases.

- Don’t display gifts where they can be seen
- Be wary of strangers soliciting for charitable donations
- Avoid leaving boxes from expensive purchases out on the curb for trash pick-up
- Do not advertise on social media that you’ll be away from your home
- Shop only on secure websites
- Check your credit and bank statements regularly for fraud
- Always be aware of your surroundings while shopping
