MARION, SC (WBTW) – For some time now, the doors have been closed to what many in Marion known as the old Marion hospital or, more recently the Cathedral Bible College.
However, the city and a group of investors from Los Angeles say they have plans to reopen the building.Mayor Bobby Davis says that 8 months ago the group of investors called with the new idea.
“When someone comes in as an investment group and they are spending their own money to invest in this. I was very excited because I knew something would happen,” he said.
The group is called 1108 North Main Street Marion LLC, which is the physical address of the building.
They hope to turn the former hospital and school into potentially a medical facility.
“It may be a combination, a nursing home or assisted living. They came in; they bought the building with their own money. They talked about how they wanted to help improve the City of Marion by providing at least 100 jobs,” Davis explained.
Right now, Marion has the fourth highest unemployment rate in state at 9.9 percent.
“It’s some possibilities that we would have some other to come here and invest in Marion,” mentioned Davis.
The group is still in the process of making a final decision on what it will ultimately be.
Right now, there is no timetable for when they may start.
