LITTLE RIVER, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Police say they have taken a man into custody and report he will likely be charged with murder after officers discovered a woman’s body in the closet of a Little River apartment.

Police responded to an apartment complex in Little River Tuesday morning after receiving a call for a “suicidal situation.”

According to Lt. Denis with Horry County Police, officers responded to an apartment off of Pinehurst Circle in Little River around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The caller reported that the man at the apartment was threatening to harm himself and saying he hadLittle-river-apartment “done something wrong,” police add.

Officers found the man hiding in the apartment and discovered the decomposing body of a 29-year-old woman in a closet, confirms Lt. Denis. Investigators determined that a homicide had taken place, and the man found hiding in the apartment was responsible for killing the woman, police say.

Lt. Denis would not release the man’s name, but did say that the suspect is at the Horry County Detention Center pending charges. He is expected to be charged with murder sometime Wednesday morning.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler says the 29-year-old white, female victim died several days before her body was discovered by Horry County Police. Fowler did not release the victim’s name but adds an autopsy was performed Tuesday and preliminary findings are still under investigation to determine the cause of death.
