FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A group that wants to help Florence County flood victims met for the first time on Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon, the Florence County Long Term Recovery Group met inside the Eastern Carolina Community Foundation building in downtown Florence.
“The Florence County Emergency Management team asked us in the middle of November to begin looking at and preparing for a long term recovery group,” said Chairman Lou Palm.
The meeting was the initial step to help correct the damage from October’s flood and to help out the people who happened to be denied assistance.
“We want to for example, tap into the South Carolina One Fund that Governor Haley has established,” Palm stated.
He says the first step is setting up systems to get money for Florence.
“So we are working on that ground work, that frame work to put this altogether. It is a very large and daunting task, but there’s nothing better to do than that,” explained Palm.
The group plans to meet for the next two Wednesday’s to put together a plan.
They hope to start working in the community by January.
