WALLACE, SC (WBTW) – Last year, News13 told you about the new Wallace Elementary Middle School in Marlboro County.
At the time was in the early stages of being built, thanks to a $20 million bond referendum.
Now, the brand new building is almost finished.
“So you know we are excited about the move,” said Principal Janice Henson.
The new 90,000 square foot school sits behind the current building, which was built in 1953.
“Several of our staff that have been here their whole careers…30, 31, 34 years, so they are vested in this school. You know many of them that have graduated from this school,” Henson said.
But when we start talking about the demolition of this building that’s when the heartstrings are pulled,” she stated.
Over the next week much of the moving will take place.
The new facility will provide them with a stem lab among other things. Something school officials say that will better prepares students.
“That stem lab is going to integrate all of our core curriculum and prepare our children for the future and become more competitive,” Henson explained.
It’s going to be a total difference. It will help my sleeping at night a lot better. We will have state of the art security systems put in place. We will have cameras everywhere,” she mentioned.
Work on final preparations should wrap up by the end of next week.

“As the move becomes closer, the emotional side enters in too,” said Henson.
