CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – News13’s sister station, WCBD, was in the courtroom during a hearing regarding the release of 911 tapes, court documents and more in the Charleston Church Shooting case.

Judge J.C. Nicholson heard from attorneys in the case during the hearing.

The South Carolina Judge told the courtroom he will work with attorneys on a case-by-case basis to determine what can be released to the media. He said he will look over everything and will render a decision on the release soon.

The judge says his biggest concern is not the credible media outlets but other people wanting to get their hands on graphic pictures from the night of the shooting.

The lawyers in the case did agree that a transcript of the 911 calls would be more appropriate, versus the audio calls.

During the hearing, Dylann Roof’s attorney said that Roof would plead guilty if he could get life without parole instead of the death penalty.

The trial date for the case has been set for July 16, 2016.
