FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – On Saturday afternoon Make-A-Wish volunteers celebrated 27 years with a Christmas cheer event for children with serious illnesses.
Bazen’s family restaurant was packed as families gathered inside for food, fun and a magic show.
Volunteers who were there say many of the kids will be traveling for the first time, so the hope is that this fun-filled event will help make the kids and their holiday season much brighter, because they get to see many of the families they haven’t seen throughout the year.
“Some of the children here today aren’t children any longer. They’re like 20 years old. We have one, the first we ever worked on was Mandy and she was 6 years old and she’s here today along with her mother and she’s 34 now, isn’t that a blessing,” mentioned Make-A-Wish volunteer Belva High.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol Troop 5 presented a check for $11,000 to the Make-A-Wish at the event.
Make-A-Wish started 27 years ago at Royall Elementary in Florence County.
