Flyball tournament brings in teams from across southeast

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Canines of all shapes and sizes made their way to Florence Sunday for a fly ball tournament.

The Pawmetto Pack Flyball Club and teams across the Southeast raced their dogs inside the Eastern Agricultural Fairgrounds.

Teams had their dogs running hurdles and catching balls against a clock for the ultimate title.

Organizers say the key to the success is the amount of time you spend with your dog before the race.

“Almost any dog can be trained to be a fly ball dog, anywhere from a toy poodle like this that’s eight pounds. There are Great Danes that run that are one hundred pounds and tall as I am. The type and size of dog is irrelevant, you want to spend time with your dog and work with your dog, any dog can be trained,” said David Moore with Pawmetto Pack Flyball Club.

Training and practice is held at the Florence County ball field at 556 Maynard Avenue by the YMCA. The club practice most Saturday mornings (weather permitting), starting at 8:00 a.m. in the summer months and a little later as weather cools.
