SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) When she was in elementary school, Jessica Hoffman’s Grandma promised her $20 dollars if she brought home one report card that didn’t say she talked to much.
That reward never came through.
That’s not a bad thing though as she’s turned her love of connecting with others into a very successful business.
It’s a fairy tale success story that could easily start with the famous “Once Upon A Time”.
“I hand sew all of my bows,” Princess and Pup Bows creator Jessica Hoffman said.
If you immediately picture your daughter wearing one of these products you are not alone. The world of P&P Bows is growing and growing quickly.
“I can make bows while I play Lego’s with my kids, I can make bows while they read aloud to me,” Hoffman said.
The story behind a now successful business starts small just like a simple fairy tale but instead of a magical rose or a glass slipper it was simply a school teacher and a mom with a new daughter she wanted to dress up.
“I went and bought 37 dollars worth of product and I sold a few for a couple dollars here and a couple dollars there,” Hoffman said.
Jessica admits her first crafts don’t stand up to where she is now but when her friends urged her to make more she responded, improved and expanded.
“I think if you have a goal as long as you stick with it and market yourself and what you are doing and you’re happy doing it I think people can see when you’re happy doing it,” Hoffman said.
Photos around the castle show the original model or test case. That baby daughter may be older now but still the first one to try out the newest wares.
Whether you’re a Clemson Tiger, USC Gamecock or a pretty princess there’s an accessory that will fit your style. Jessica even makes bows for fans of The Ellen Show. She hopes one day to actually present one of those bows to her favorite talk show host.
Brand new babies to brand new brides have worn her work. A true fairy tale evolution to a story that started with just $37 dollars of fabric.
“It’s just a bow but you’re a part of so many people’s lives and so many people’s big experiences,” Hoffman said.
Jessica says a lot of people buy the bows for their dogs and pets as well. You can find the store at the Hudson Flea Market in Surfside. Make sure you look for the fairy tale castle.
The flea market is open Friday-Sunday from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the winter then six days a week in the summer.
P&P Bows makes bows from ribbon and flowers to burlap. They also have bow ties that you can get for Dad to match the daughter as well as custom dresses for girls and their dolls.
