MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens finished up a record setting season on Sunday.
Event organizers say the event broke last years record of 37,000 visitors on Friday. With an extra night added due to online demand the total this year could top 50,000 people.
The crowds came to see thousands of real candles and over a million electric lights, something that helps the non-profit educational organization.
“It really pays for a lot of bills throughout the year. Helps to add to our sculpture collection. Improves the quality of our garden, which is one of the top ten of the country and really helps us move our mission forward so its very helpful in many ways,” said president and CEO, Bob Jewell.
Jewell says their 80-foot Christmas tree has twice the number of lights as the tree in Rockefeller Center and each year organizers try to add new changes to the display.
