MARION, SC (WBTW) – A Virginia man visiting family in Marion for Christmas was arrested for a crime spree of breaking into homes, vehicles and damaging property, according to Marion Police.
Police Chief Dewayne Tennie says Sean Patrick Burke, 20, of Fredericksburg, VA, was arrested Sunday for eight home burglaries, five car thefts and malicious damage to property. Burke arrived in Marion Christmas evening to visit family, adds Chief Tennie, and his apparent crime spree began shortly thereafter.
Burke was captured on surveillance video from one of the homes he reportedly burglarized and was seen by a Marion Police officer Sunday morning in front of the family member’s home where he was staying. Chief Tennie says Burke became “extremely disorderly” when the officer attempted to speak with him. Burke was arrested for disorderly conduct and a search warrant was obtained for the home and Burke’s car.
Officers discovered four stolen guns, knives, money, jewelry and medication.
“Due to the efforts of the officers, the majority of the items were recovered and will be returned to their rightful owners, especially the firearms. I am extremely grateful that the firearms were recovered and did not end up in the wrong hands,” Chief Tennie says.
Burke is charged with seven counts of burglary first degree, one count burglary second degree, five counts of theft from a motor vehicle, and one county of malicious damage to property.
