FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Lynches River continues to be under a flood warning as waters have reached 16.2 feet, two feet over flood stage, and are forecasted to remain at that level through Wednesday morning, according to the Florence County Emergency Management Department.
The river should gradually subside later Wednesday afternoon, notes the National Weather Service. Less than a half inch of rain is
expected Wednesday, and that rainfall is not expected to cause any additional flooding.
Although most of the flooding is currently affecting Effingham, residents along the river in Johnsonville are asked to monitor river levels closely over the next couple days as it typically takes between 2-3 days for waters to move downriver, emergency management advises.
Several roads along the river have been closed due to waters crossing the roadways. The following is a list of roads that are closed or partially closed due to flooding, although this may not be a complete list: Roundtree Rd., Stagecoach Rd., Ben Gause Rd., Meadow Prong Rd., and N. Old Georgetown Rd. at E. Friendfield Rd. intersection in Effingham.
Florence County residents who live along the river are encouraged to continue to monitor water levels and to leave their homes if flood waters begin to enter them. If at any time residents feel their safety is in danger, they are asked to dial 9-1-1 immediately.
Do not drive on flooded roads or around barricades as the conditions of the roadways underneath are unknown, warn emergency management officials.
