HOPE MILLS, NC (WNCN) — A Hope Mills, North Carolina daycare worker had her first appearance in court on Wednesday after being charged with felony child abuse.
Cumberland County Sheriff deputies say 32-year-old Chasity Patterson dislocated a toddler’s elbow after pulling his arm, to get him to clean up toys.
The incident happened in November at Pampers, Hugs and Luvs Daycare at 634 Sandhills Road in Hope Mills.
The parents of a 22-month-old child told the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office their child was treated at Cape Fear Valley Health System November 20 for a dislocated elbow.
The injury is commonly known as “nurse maid elbow,” the sheriff’s office said.
Wednesday in court, the judge told Patterson she is not to be around anyone under the age of 18 until further notice. The judge said that includes her own two children.
Patterson, of Spindletree Drive in Fayetteville, was arrested Dec. 29 and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. Patterson is released on a $10,000 bond and scheduled to be back in court January 19.
