Approximately 60 million StarTAC’s were sold.

Apple Computer was incorporated 39 years ago today (1/3/1977)

Ten years after that (1/3/1987), Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Sir George Martin was the Beatles’ main producer and many have called him “The Fifth Beatle.”
Martin is 90 years old today.

Actor Mel Gibson is 60 today.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is 35.

Today marks two significant events in New York Yankees history.
96 years ago today (1/3/1920), the Yankees paid the Boston Red Sox $125,000 ($1.48 million in today’s money) for Babe Ruth.
43 years ago today (1/3/1973), George Steinbrenner paid CBS $8.7 million ($46.5 million in today’s money) for the Yankees.
The Yankees are now worth an estimated $3.2 billion.

The Scottish rock band Bay City Rollers had 10 top-10 hits in the U.K., including two number-ones.
The Rollers had only one #1 hit in the U.S.
That was “Saturday Night” and it hit number-one 40 years ago today (1/3/1976).
