FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW)- According to the Florence County Coroner’s Office, SCDNR is investigating after the body of a boater was found near Evans Farm Road in Pamplico, on Saturday afternoon.
Officials say duck hunters found the victim’s boat partially submerged in the Big Pee Dee River Saturday morning and contacted the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
A search of the area resulted in the discovery of the boater around 2:10pm a short distance from the incident site.
The coroner says preliminary findings through their investigation indicates the incident occurred late Thursday afternoon.
Officials identify the victim as James Michael King, 71 YOA, of the Pamplico area.
The cause of death is attributed to hypothermia; foul play is not a suspected factor at this time.
The incident is under investigation by the SCDNR and Florence County Coroner’s Office.
