The crash happened after midnight at the intersection of N.W. Maynard Road and Honeysuckle Lane when the man driving on N.W. Maynard Road crossed the intersection at Old Apex Road and went airborne. When the car landed, the driver lost control of the car and went sideways up a yard and slammed into the house.
The driver, identified as William Rafael Garcia, was trapped in the car when emergency personnel arrived on the scene. He was transported to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh in critical condition.
The home is a rental property and is currently vacant, police said. The car struck the bedroom section of the house and a water line to the house was busted. A crew was called out to cut off gas to the house.
NW Maynard Road was closed for some time as the police and CCBI investigated the crash.
Police said they believe speed was a factor, but said they don’t have an exact speed and aren’t sure of any other factors that may have caused the crash at this time.
