FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – This year more than 300 volunteers worked in teams to complete 46 projects throughout the City of Florence.

Many of the projects focus on tourism attractions. But News 13 found one group of volunteers working to give residents’ homes a face-lift. Volunteers were in the North Florence community installing carpet, painting, landscaping, cleaning, and doing yard work.

For 74-year-old Annie White, Friday was a special day because she got a chance to keep some money in her pockets and have her yard-work done for no cost at all.

“They cut the grass and everything, and cut my front yard and back and all back that way and all down the street there, and I was happy for what they did,” White said.

City of Florence Public Works Director Chuck Pope says his team is helping the city give back to the less fortunate.

“It provides an opportunity for the city to get involved, and provide some yard work. Sometimes its carpentry work, sometimes its electrical work, anything that can help that residents benefit and have a better quality of life,” said Pope.

The volunteers target homes of elderly, low-to-moderate income and disabled residents and families.

“I was sick last night and wasn’t feeling good so I’m happy for that because they could’ve not did it. Thank you for that, what ya’ll did today,” White said.

“It’s always great to have the resident be happy with what the outcome is of the Day of Caring,” added Pope.

Volunteers worked on more than 40 homes in the North Brunson community.
