SLED investigating CCU student’s death in residence hall Saturday morning

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW)- Coastal Carolina University officials confirm a student’s death on campus on Saturday morning.

Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick says the body of a 21-year-old male was found around 9:45 Saturday morning. The coroner says at  this time all signs point to natural causes.

CCU’s office of communications sent the below message to students and staff Saturday afternoon:

“It is with great sadness that we notify you of the death of Brandon Devere Scott, a junior art studio major from North Charleston, SC. Plans have not been announced for services at this time. The University will update the community with appropriate information.

Friends of Brandon who may need assistance in dealing with this loss may contact our Counseling Services at 843-349-2305 or University Housing staff 843-349-6400.

Students, who are interested in holding a campus memorial service for Brandon, please contact Chris Donevant-Haines, Counseling Services.”

The coroner says autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Martha Hunn with CCU’s Office of Communication told News13 SLED is now investigating and this is standard protocol for all deaths on campus.

CCU officials say there is no threat to the campus at this time.
