MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- A possible lightning strike damaged an Horry County business.
According to Assistant Chief Justin Gibbins, Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the Excel Construction on Highway 544 around 11:20 Wednesday night.
He says an officer patrolling the area saw the fire and called it in.
When firefighters arrived, flames were coming through the roof of the business. The fire heavily damaged the building, but the contents inside were salvageable.
Gibbons says bystanders reported hearing a loud boom in the area, and HCFR has contacted the National Weather Service to see if it can pinpoint a lightning strike in the area.
Multiple stations with HCFR responded, as well as units from Ocean Bay and the Conway Fire Department.
The fire remains under investigation, but firefighters believe it was caused by lightning.
