Rain/Wintry Mix for Sunday

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The StormTracker13 Weather Team is keeping an eye on a storm that’s bringing moderate to heavy rain for most on Sunday, and even a wintry mix for some spots inland.

We’re getting wrap-around moisture from a low-pressure system offshore that’s quickly moving northeast. The center of the system will stay offshore as it passes us by later today, but we could see 1-2 inches of rainfall along the coast and with our temperatures being so cold (especially the further inland you go) we’re tracking some spots seeing a wintry mix this morning and we’re keeping an eye on the potential for some light snow flurries along the border belt, and in Marlboro and Dillon counties.

Accumulations of 1/4-1/2″ of snow are possible along the border belt, up to 1/4″ of accumulation near I-95, and rain totals along the coast of 1-2″. Wet snow may mix in with rain at the coast tomorrow, but accumulation isn’t expected. Locally higher amounts will be possible in areas where heavy rain or flurries set up. Anything wintry will transition gradually to all rain as temperatures warm up today.

Flooding is a concern given that we already saw 2-4 inches of rain earlier this week. Horry and Georgetown counties are under a Flood Watch through later this evening. The storm system offshore is also producing strong winds, and a Wind Advisory is in effect through 10 this evening. We could see winds up to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph along the coast. Because the grounds are already saturated we could see some weak trees blown down so be mindful of the winds and the rain if you’re heading out the door today.

The StormTracker13 Weather Team will continue to keep you covered on this storm throughout the weekend.
