Connecticut dad arrested for DUI with unrestrained 9-day-old baby in backseat

CLINTON, Conn. (WTNH)– A man was arrested near a Clinton sobriety check point Sunday for driving under the influence with his nine day old baby in the car.

Clinton police say they were conducting a sobriety check point on Rt. 81 when just after 1:30 a.m., a car approaching the check point stopped quickly and backed up, hitting the bumper of the car behind it. Police say the car then made a U turn before fleeing the area.

Officers followed and were able to stop the car. Police say that’s when they found that the driver, 25-year-old Amado Dilone, of Killingworth, was intoxicated and that there was an unrestrained nine day old infant in the car. Dilone is the father of the infant. He was charged with Operating under the Influence, Operating with a Suspended license, Evading Responsibilities, Unsafe backing, Transporting a child under the age of 4 without a proper restraint system, and Risk of Injury to a Minor. He is currently being held on $5,000 bond.

Police say a passenger, 18-year-old Sage Grady, of West Haven, was also arrested after police found her to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and a stun gun. Grady was charged with Possessing a Weapon in a motor vehicle and Possession of a controlled substance (less than 4 ounces). She was released on a written promise to appear.

Police say the mother of the infant was also in the car but was not charged.
