Myrtle Beach to discuss gang activity in upcoming workshops

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Gang activity will be the topic of two interactive workshops held by the City of Myrtle Beach next week.

The first workshop, aimed at helping parents recognize gang activity and prevent their children from being recruited by the dangerous groups, will be held February 18. Police officer will make a presentation about gang activity and provide tips to parents. The Gang Workshop will take place at the Train Depot, located at 851 Broadway Street, from 6 – 8 p.m.

On Saturday, February 20, the city will host a second Gang Workshop designed for kids. Former professional baseball player William James will be at the event speaking to children about the importance of making good decisions. Wilson “Willie” James played professional baseball for the Atlanta Braves and Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The workshop will take place at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center, located at 971 Canal Street, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and is designed for children ages 10 to 16. The event includes free games and pizza.
