DARLINGTON, S.C. (WBTW)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Darlington County Coroner’s office are investigating a deadly crash.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says a single vehicle crash killed a Society Hill man overnight. Troopers with the Highway Patrol say the crash happened around 3:25 am.

Troopers say the driver of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling north on Society Hill Road and ran off the right side of the road. The Highway Patrol says the car hit several trees, overturned and ejected both passengers.

The coroner says 62-year-old Belton Joyner, Jr. was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Joyner was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers say the driver of the car and other passenger were taken to an area hospital. Troopers say they didn’t have on seat-belts either.
