MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach city officials report the work being done on Fred Nash Boulevard is close to completion and should reopen in about two weeks.

According to a Facebook post from the city, the Fred Nash Boulevard project is generally on schedule. The road will feature a new traffic roundabout, intended to make traffic flow smoother and traveling the road generally easier for drivers.

Fred Nash Boulevard was closed to traffic nearly three months ago for construction of underground utilities and a traffic circle to serve new retail and commercial projects. Traffic circles handle a higher volume of cars than similar signalized intersections, the city reports.

Recent rains haven’t slowed the project too much, but final paving will depend on weather. Asphalt paving must be done when temperatures are in the 45 to 50 degree range, city officials state.

In addition, South Carolina Department of Transportation recently announced the crossover median from 17 Bypass onto Shetland Drive, which has been closed during the Fred Nash Boulevard project, will be permanently closed to all traffic.
