HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Hartsville officials say the death of a man found lying in the middle of Poole Street Wednesday night in Hartsville was caused by a gunshot wound to the head.
Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee says the Hartsville Police Department, along with the coroner’s office, began investigating the death of Chance Polson, 35, of Hartsville, Wednesday night when his body was discovered on Poole Street.
Hardee says Polson died from a gunshot wound to the head and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Hartsville Police Lt. Mark Blair says officers were dispatched to Poole Street around 7 p.m. after receiving a call about a person possibly being run over by a vehicle. The driver of the car did not leave the scene, and fully cooperated with officers, Lt. Blair adds. According to Hardee’s release, it was discovered Polson was not killed by being struck by a vehicle and police add the driver is not facing charges at this time.
Polson’s death remains under investigation by the Hartsville Police Department and the Darlington County Coroner’s Office.
