MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach woman was jailed on child neglect charges after two children in her care tested positive for at least one drug each.
An incident report from Myrtle Beach Police states an employee with the Department of Social Services presented drug test results for 24-year-old Mary Matteline Wicks and two children under her care on February 12. The tests revealed Wicks and both children tested positive for marijuana in January. The police report goes on to confirm one of the children also tested positive for hydrocodone.
The DSS agent informed police that another adult was asked to consent to drug testing but refused, saying he “uses marijuana” and wouldn’t comply with the testing for that reason. The report did not indicate the man’s relationship to Wicks or the children.
Wicks is charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child and was booked into the Myrtle Beach jail Wednesday at 12:45 p.m.
