Four people were killed on South Carolina roads this weekend, according to new state numbers. In each case, the person wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, preliminary numbers show four people were killed on the roads between Friday, February 26, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 28, at midnight.
As of February 28th, 119 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 138 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of those killed so far this year, 49 were not wearing seat belts, 15 were pedestrians, seven were motorcyclists and five were bicyclists.
Greenville County leads the state with the most traffic fatalities so far this year with 10.
Horry County has had eight traffic fatalities so far in 2016. Florence County has had three, while Marlboro and Florence Counties each report two road deaths this year.
State officials say these numbers are preliminary.
