Police investigate after Lumberton police vehicle destroyed in fire

LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – The Lumberton Police Department is asking the community for help after an officer found a police vehicle on fire Wednesday morning.

Captain Terry Parker says an officer was en-route to a call for service just after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning when he saw smoke coming from the area of the East Lumberton Resource Center, located at 1608 East 5th Street. When the officer got closer to the area, he could see a Lumberton Police Department vehicle on fire.

The vehicle was totaled in the fire, Captain Parker confirms.

An investigation is under way and Captain Parker says the department has requested the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
