SURFSIDE BEACH, SC – Surfside Beach is working to develop a mobile app for residents and visitors to better promote the community.
On Tuesday evening, members of town council considered a recommendation from its Economic Development, Planning and Marketing Focus Group to develop and deploy the mobile application. It was unanimously approved.
Surfside Beach Town Administrator Micki Fellner tells News13 the app will help increase visibility to residents, visitors and prospective visitors. The town also aims to share information and push out data on the software, with the potential to collect revenue in the future.
Fellner says the app is in its preliminary design stages, as it development continues. Once completed and out of a testing phase, Fellner says the app would be available in the Apple and Android stores. The preliminary design includes options to access information on town contacts, dining options, lodging and leisure.
According to recommendation papers, Surfside beach Town Council budgeted $25,000 for the Economic Development, Planning and Marketing Focus Group. The papers reveal the initial design of the town’s app will cost $3,000. A monthly $30 distribution fee will be charged once it is deployed.
Fellner says the town hopes to debut the app in the late fall.
