Deputies say man wanted for Marlboro County murder on the run

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WBTW) –  Someone was shot and killed in Bennettsville Saturday afternoon, according to Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown.

Brown says the shooting happened at 4:00pm on Wanda Street. Deputies with the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office say the victim came over to the home because his 12-year-old daughter was there and he was to pick her up. At that point, deputies say some type of confrontation took place as a result of prior animosity between the victim and the suspect.

Witnesses say the suspect then retrieved a firearm and shot the victim and then fled the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene

The Sheriff’s Office is looking for 32-year-old James Zevon Brown also known as “JJ” for Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime. Brown is described as a black male and is 5’9’ and weighs 175 lbs.

If anyone has any information about the whereabouts of Brown, please call the MCSO and your information will be kept confidential.

SLED is helping Marlboro County sheriff’s deputies investigate. MCSO Investigators are interviewing witnesses and more charges may come at a later time.

Deputies say Emily Kate Mclain, of Bennettsville is charged with Obstruction of Justice. She is the estranged wife of the victim and was present during the shooting.

Deputies say she has been charged in relation to false statements and withholding information during a interview with Law Enforcement that Obstructed Justice and hindered the Investigation.

Deputies say please do not approach Brown as deputies consider him armed and dangerous at this point.
