DURHAM, N.C.  – The heart of a 15-year-old boy gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Durham last week is being donated, CBS North Carolina has learned.

“He died for somebody else to have life,” David Pounds’ family announced following the teen’s funeral Tuesday.

Pounds was standing outside a home in the 1400 block of Maplewood Drive last Tuesday night, March 8, when a vehicle drove by and someone inside started shooting.

Several rounds were fired and Pounds and 25-year-old Timothy Stevens Jr. were hit. Both were rushed to the hospital where Pounds died.

Stevens, Pounds’ cousin, was treated and released.

Pounds was a 10th grade student at Lakeview School, according to family members.

The shooting remains under investigation. No one has been arrested and no charges have been filed.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
