CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard confirms a firefighter died from injuries responding to a house fire on Sunday afternoon.
Phillips Hendrick, the City of Conway’s fire chief, confirms that Christopher Ray of Green Sea died on the scene by the Horry County Coroner’s office after being struck by a fire engine.

Christopher has been working with the City of Conway since 2010. Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick has scheduled an autopsy for Monday. The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s MAIT is investigating the incident.
Battalion Chief Brian Van Aernem with Horry County Fire Rescue says the home on 1009 Hickory Circle is a total loss.
Van Aernem says Ray was injured in the early stages of the fire. News13’s Lucas Lalonde is on the scene and says firefighters were embracing each other and visibly upset.
A press conference will be scheduled with the media for March 21st.
