MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – A country music festival is seeking more than $200,000 from Myrtle Beach in accommodations tax money for services and to promote the event.
There are questions about whether the Carolina Country Music Fest should receive both.
The Sun News reports city council has approved $108,000 for services such as police and cleanup after the festival. Some council members are concerned about providing the tax money.
The city early denied a request from a group receiving accommodations money to also receive in-kind services for a Saint Patrick’s event.
The first Carolina Country Music Fest drew more than 20,000 fans each day last year. This year’s event runs June 9th through the 12th featuring Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line among more than 30 acts.
