LONGS, SC (WBTW) – Wet weather may have disappointed some drag racing fans on the Grand Strand who were hoping to get their first look at the North Myrtle Beach Drag Strip Sunday.

The track in Longs has been closed for the past two seasons and local racers say they are excited to have a closer option than Darlington.

New management invested more than $400,000s on resurfacing, new lights and other upgrades.

They held a meet and greet Sunday, though the weather did cause them to cancel the scheduled races.

“We can’t do nothing with what God does, but today was going to be the day we were going to let everybody see the improvements and also get to meet the staff and personal of this new operation. And also just to have some fun and get to know each other,” said the tracks manager, Rudolph Tank Brown.

Organizers say a few hundred came out to the track through out the day and people enjoyed a cookout.

They are holding another meet and greet next weekend, the first event at the track is in two weeks.
