FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Thousands gathered Tuesday to pay their final respects to longtime Florence City Councilman Ed Robinson.
Florence area leaders and others from across South Carolina attended his service.
His funeral took place at the Florence Civic Center.
Robinson’s friends, former colleagues and classmates all honored him. Those who spoke noted that while he was known for his big personality while on council he did it to help many in his community.
“Some of us used to see Ed on TV marching up and down and used to think, what is Ed talking about now? We put so much focus on the messenger that we failed to pay attention to the message,” mentioned LaShonda Nesmith, chairwoman of the Florence County Democratic Party.
Robinson was 69-years-old and had been on council since 1989. At the time of his death, he was city council’s longest serving member.
“He was a joy and a pleasure. Though it was often lost in his rhetoric, Ed was truly the conscious of our council,” said former Mayor Florence Frank Willis.
Councilman Robinson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was buried at the Florence National Cemetery.
