HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A brief police chase ensued after a man reported his car stolen in Hartsville Monday and deputies discovered a suspected car thief driving the vehicle shortly after the emergency call, police say.
Public Information Officer Mark Blair with Hartsville Police says officers were called to The Markette, located at 621 South Fifth Street, after a victim reported his car had been stolen. Officers began searching the area for the stolen car and a Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle, adds Blair.
The suspected car thief, Jacorey Miller, of Darlington, led police on a brief chase down Sumter Avenue, and eventually stopped the stolen car before being arrested, Blair explains. Officers found a pistol in the car, which was confirmed to belong to the victim, Blair adds.
Miller is charged with fail to stop for blue light, giving false information to police, grand larceny, operating motor vehicle without license and public disorderly conduct.
“Due to quick actions and cooperation between police agencies, the vehicle was returned to the owner undamaged, and another firearm was kept off the streets,” states Blair in a press release about the incident.
