FRIENDSVILLE, TN (WATE) – Blount County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee is investigating after two teens ended up in the hospital with seizures, hallucinations and vomiting after eating candy with high levels of THC, which is active in marijuana.

A 15 and a 17-year-old girl were both brought to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Sunday, according to deputies. They said the 15-year-old is still in the ICU and a 24-year-old man was treated and released from Blount Memorial Hospital.

Investigators said they believe a 15-year-old mentally disabled boy brought two packages of “Dank Grasshopper” Orange Gummies to Hickory Valley Baptist Church in Friendsville. According to the packaging each gummy contained 450 mg of THC. He gave one package to a 15-year-old boy and one to a 24-year-old man at the church.

Police said the 15-year-old boy opened the package of gummies, but did not distribute it or ingest it. They said the 24-year-old ate part of the candy, then gave the rest to 15 and 17-year-old girls, both who ate the gummies.

The sheriff’s office said investigators are working to determine how the candy was acquired.
