The Sumter Police Department charged a Florence man with grand larceny, after reports he took swan eggs from a park. William Christopher McLaughlin, 30, is charged with grand larceny.
In a press release, Sumter Police Public Information Officer, Tonyia M. McGirt, said on Sunday afternoon at Swan Lake Iris Gardens, people told park rangers they saw a man take several eggs from a nest. A ranger called police and officers say they found the eggs in McLaughlin’s vehicle.
The press release says the eggs are valued between $1,400 and $4,500 each.
McLaughlin was released Monday on a $5,000 surety bond.
