Virtual Reality at The Masters

AUGUSTA, GA (WBTW) There is nothing quite like seeing the picturesque backdrop of Augusta National in person or is there? As technology improves that line of reality becomes blurred

Masters VR 2“It’s absolutely phenomenal,” Dougie Keen a patron from London England who said visiting was on his bucket list. “It’s immaculate the place. There’s not a blade of grass out of place. It’s just an absolute fantastic place.”

Hands together in polite appreciation from the patrons. The golf clap is probably for a putt well done but it could easily be applied to someone behind the scenes keeping those fairways, greens and of course azaleas,,, in perfectly manicured form

“I think the best comparison is that it’s like a theme park for adults,” Keen said.

One company is hoping to bring that experience to fans all over the world from the comfort of their own living room.

“As you look around you are seeing as if you are there,” Next VR Executive Chairman Brad Allen said.

If Augusta National is still in your future plans, this is a temporary solutionMasters VR 1

“You turn your head you are going to see what’s to the right, you turn your head that way and you’re going to see what’s there,” Allen said of the virtual reality device.

Transport from location from anywhere in the world to the galleries of The Masters

The technology works as users put their Samsung phones into the headset.  This is the first year The Masters has used a Virtual Reality broadcast.  Patrons can watch two of the Par 3 holes throughout the weekend from the tee or the green as if they were actually there.

“Have you watched the Masters growing up? Yeah I watched it with him,” Masters patron Brady Brewer said

Not everyone gets the chance like Brady and his father Brian. A ticket to the Masters can seem like an elusive Holy Grail quest.

“It’s great to share this with him,” Brian said. “It’s definitely something we’ll be talking about when he’s my age.”

If reality eyes under logo branded caps aren’t feasible options now, perhaps virtual views can suffice for now

“This really will give people the ability to have that virtual ticket,” Allen said.

Until that bucket list item can finally display a check mark next to Augusta National.

“I think it’s the initial first few steps when you walk into the place and you think wow,” Keen said
