FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – On Wednesday News13 reported that hundreds of jobs could be leaving the Pee Dee area in the coming months, as several companies in the area have decided to close.
However, while some jobs are going there are many employers looking to fill positions.
SC Works partnered with Florence-Darlington Technical College to host a job fair on Thursday.
There were 70 employers at the event looking to fill positions.
Ronald Graham was one of the many who attended the job fair and says he’s is pretty optimistic.
“I had some offers already and I think it’s looking pretty good so far,” said Graham.
Along with earning his college degree next month, Graham is more focused on finding a job than the 300 fleeting positions.
“No it’s not discouraging to me because I always see the glass as being half full,” he mentioned.
SC Works says while there are a number of jobs leaving the area there’s no real lack of highly skilled jobs.
If a company decides to close free programs are then offered to those employees along with an opportunity to go to school to put them in a better position.
“What really happens is if they come into the office and South Carolina Works we have resource center that we can help them with jobs,” said Charles Moses, the Local Veteran Representative for SC Works.
On Wednesday, SC Works stopped by the Galey and Lord Textile plant in Society Hill looking to help the people there land on their feet.
