MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Hundreds of cancer survivors and people in the community walked 12 hours for a good cause on Saturday.
More than 300 team members came together to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser at Broadway at the Beach.
The event featured raffles, rides and lots of prizes.
All the money raised goes towards the American Cancer Society.
Many of the walkers are cancer survivors who relied on the American Cancer Society in their recovery, who are thankful to see the community come together for the cause.
“Its amazing, you know, there are so many people that are a great support to you during your journey; but you get to meet a lot of fabulous people on the way and its all about relationships and support and loving one another,” said BJ Moore, a breast cancer survivor.
Luminary bags will be lit in remembrance of those lost to cancer.
Organziers say money raised locally, helps the local community.
“We have over 41 volunteer drivers in horry county that take people to and from their treatment. Another thing is we have our 800 number,800-227-2345,. that you can call 24 hours a day 7 days a week when you need help with your cancer treatment.” said community manager for ACS, Troy Matheny.
The organization has raised nearly $77,000 of it’s $95,000 goal which they hope to reach that by August 1st.
