SUMTER COUNTY (WBTW) – The Sumter County Coroner says a 12-year-old has died after an ATV accident in Olanta Sunday afternoon.
Ken Bell with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened around 3:15 p.m.
Deputies responded to Douglas Swamp Road to investigate. People on the scene attempted to drive the child to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, but were met by a Florence County EMS unit.
Florence EMS says the child stopped breathing and died before they were able to reach the hospital.
Bell says the boy had just celebrated his 12th birthday on April 12th and they will release his name Monday.
Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Newberry.
