LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – In just a few days the South’s biggest art competition and festival will kick off for a fourth year in Lake City.

ArtFields will runs for 9 days, from April 22nd – April 30th.For the past two and half weeks organizers have been installing different pieces of art in these venues.  There are 39 venues, mostly along Main Street.

Organizers say it takes a full year just to plan and prepare for ArtFields.

“It feels like everyone has learned to speak a whole new language.  A lot of the conversations now revolve around art work as well as fun business ideas of now having a new influx of folks coming into town and seeing what happens next,” said Sandy Cook, Creative Team Manager for ArtFields.

After its first year in 2013, a study was done by the Lake City Partnership Council which showed that the event had a more than $5 million economic impact for the area.

That impact stemmed from visitors to jobs created and by event organizers and employees before and during the event.

In total, 22,000 people visited ArtFields that year.

“We’ve had an increase in several businesses and increase in several businesses as well,” Cook mentioned.
