Have You Heard, today (9/28) is “World Rabies Day.”
While very few humans get it in this country, that’s not true in parts of Africa and Asia. Worldwide estimates are that 25,000-plus people die each year from rabies.
It’s important to keep your family pets vaccinated for the disease although, in the U.S., bats account for more rabies cases in humans than any other animal.
If you’re infected, it’s important to get that taken care of as soon as possible. Once you start showing symptoms, you’re usually dead within two weeks.

Perhaps the greatest hitter in history, Ted Williams, hit his 521st and final home run 55 years ago today.
Perhaps the greatest male soul singer in history, Marvin Gaye, got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 25 years ago today, six years after his death at the age of 44.

The United States Navy abolished flogging 165 years ago today (9/28/1850).
Today is also National Drink a Beer Day and Good Neighbor Day…two “holidays” that, you can argue, go together.
You can see “Have You Heard” each weeknight after weather on News13 at 11:00.
